College Requirements


John Martinson Honors College Requirements (24 honors credits, plus a scholarly project)

The Honors College curriculum is designed to complement and enhance a student’s major degree (which includes the PharmD, P1-P4) to promote interdisciplinary awareness, and to support research and creative endeavors.  The majority of the required credits may double count towards the student’s major and the foundational core. Students in the John Martinson Honors College must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and have completed all Honors College requirements to graduate with honors.

Honors Requirements (24 credits)


HONR courses (5 credits)


Elective Honors courses (19 credits)


  1. HONR courses other than those used to meet requirement 1 above
  2. Courses or course sections with an H designation
  3. Courses taken with an H contract
  4. 50000-level courses
  5. Supervised research courses (e.g., undergraduate research, directed study, independent research, honors thesis)

Scholarly Project


A student must engage in a sustained project, either on or off campus, in which the student creates new knowledge. Results of this research or creative project should be presented in a public forum (e.g. publication, presentation, display, or performance). Students may satisfy this requirement by choosing one of the following options:

1. Propose and complete a project. 


Complete a project related to your major or to other educational experiences or propose a project of your own design to the Honors College scholarly project committee.

2. Complete one of the courses listed.


Complete a course designated scholarly project completion courses designated as fulfilling the scholarly project 3-credit, project-based courses taught by an honors college faculty member, designed to meet the learning outcomes of the scholarly project in one semester.

3. Complete Research


This class establishes a new pathway for Honors completion through a critical reflection of a student’s engagement with the Undergraduate Research pillar of the college. This course empowers Honors College students to leverage their research, scholarly, and creative experiences to complete the Honors College curriculum.

Continuing and Transfer Students (18 credits + Scholarly Project)


Up to 9 honors credits may be transferred from another institution. The scholarly project requirement must be completed after matriculation to Purdue University; it cannot be fulfilled by research or coursework undertaken at a previous institution.
