The Health Science Pre-Professional (HSPP) program is changing its name to Biomedical Health Sciences (BMHS) effective Fall 2021 in recognition of the STEM and biomedical focus of this major. Newly admitted students for Fall 2021 to Health Sciences Pre-Professional (HSPP) may continue in HSPP or change to BMHS when they matriculate. The new Interdisciplinary concentration within the Health Sciences Pre-Professional major provides a flexible plan of study that can be applied to a variety of health related fields. Students will be empowered to enhance the basic Health Science Pre-Professional curricula with the science courses that best fit their own interests. The customizable nature of the concentration is ideal for addressing new emerging fields and opportunities.
The newly renamed Biomedical Health Sciences (BMHS) major, formerly Health Science Pre-Professional (HSPP), is designed to prepare students for entry into professional and graduate schools in a wide arena of health professions and health sciences. This concentration is specifically designed for students interested in health care careers that want the flexibility to design their own path or are not decided on a specific professional program. Also, this concentration allows students to prepare for the many professional programs in healthcare or biomedical sciences that are not specifically covered by the other concentrations, e.g. toxicology, molecular medicine, occupational and physical therapy, medical scientist, exposure science, and other biomedical and public health sciences.
The Interdisciplinary Health Sciences (IDHS) concentration is more flexible so students can fit the requirements of their professional or graduate program of choice. However, this program goes beyond minimum requirements to ensure that students are prepared for the rigors of a professional program across any of the biomedical health sciences.
